Recently, The Art Store received some surprising news from our local college. After reading the notification below, feel free to voice your opinion about the imminent closure of one of the few international galleries in the area by emailing john.flicker@prescott.edu.
Prescott College’s Art Gallery Slated to CLOSE! Your voice needed!!!
Dear Friend of the Gallery,
It is with dismay and urgency that I invite you to participate in an email campaign concerning the slated closure of the Prescott College Art Gallery. The Prescott College community was notified on Friday of measures being taken to manage the College budget in the wake of several years of declining enrollment, among which was the elimination of the Gallery Coordinator position (currently held by Jen Chandler) effective this Friday, and the closure of the Gallery later this summer. Constituents of the Gallery such as faculty, staff, Gallery Advisory Committee members, Friends of the Gallery, and funders did not have any opportunity to weigh in on this decision. Please send your remarks concerning the Prescott College Art Gallery closure immediately to President John Flicker: john.flicker@prescott.edu.
Entering its 7th year of operation, the Gallery has become recognized statewide for showcasing contemporary art by nationally renowned and emerging artists. Aside from the Gallery Coordinator position, the Gallery’s operations have been funded exclusively through gifts and grants, with no institutional support for exhibitions and programming. Against the odds, the gallery has proven to be unique from what is currently offered in Northern Arizona by continuing to host spectacular exhibitions, events and programs to serve mission of Prescott College while supporting the interests of the regional community. Please advocate for the Arts in our community by voicing your concerns to john.flicker@prescott.edu today.
Sincerely,
Julie Comnick
