Painting Study Art Materials
- A Newsprint or Drawing pad at least 11×14
- Charcoal pencils (varying hardnesses)
- Jumbo Vine or Willow Charcoal Sticks – Round or Rectangular
- A roll of Masking or Artist Tape
Paint:
Buy all oil or all acrylic at first
- Titanium White (PW6)
- Ivory Black (PBk9)
- Yellow Ochre Light or Pale (PY43)
- Indian Yellow (PY110)
- English Red or Transparent Red Oxide (PR101)
- Permanent Alizarin Crimson (PR83)
- Ultramarine Blue (PB29)
- Cobalt Blue (PB28)
- Viridian (PG18)
Optional:
- Cad Red Light (PR108)
- Cad Yellow Medium (PY35)
~A box with handle to carry all your paints that you can fit into a locker or paint tube carrier~
Equipment:
Brushes:
If you do not have any brushes, at least buy the following:
- An inexpensive hog bristle long handled brush set varying in size and shape
- A few synthetic flat or round brushes with long handles varying in size and shape
- One 2” bristle brush
- One 1” flat bristle brush.
**This will be enough to start with; you can acquire more as you go along.
Containers:
Acrylic Painters –
- Two empty plastic containers approximately 12oz or larger for water
Oil Painters –
- Two small sealable containers safe for paint mediums
- A 16oz or larger container of odorless mineral spirits (Paint Thinner, Turpenoid or Gamsol)
- A small container of Linseed oil (8oz or larger)
- A palette knife to be used for mixing mostly
- A mixing palette – 12×16 wood palette, piece of glass or sealed palette for mixing and/or saving the paint between sessions.
Painting Substrates:
pre-stretched canvases, canvas panels or gessoed boards:
- Two 8x10s
- Three 11x14s
- Two 16x20s
- Five 18x24s
Optional Equipment:
nitrile gloves for cleanup of mineral spirits and painting
